But Washington D.C. as calm? that's just silly ;P
On a completely unrelated note, I'm in the stages of planning a philosophy paper where i examine the nature of warfare between states at the level of Plato's Republic and examine how war devolves and becomes offensive as the government strays further from the Republic, primarily via Aristotle, I think, and Oligarchy versus democracy versus Polity, where Property becomes an issue in warfare. Also, civil war and an idividual's part in that also comes out, whereas in the Republic, the city and it's motives are equivalent to the interests and motives of EVERY one of its CITIZENS, so rebellion makes no sense. I think it'd be really cool and ironic if I managed to reduce Plato's assumptions about a state and its citizens to the level of Hobbes when a democracy is reached (where people without government are in constant war, and government is agreed to as an expedient to keeping yourself alive).
